SUMMARY:DG: Attorneys Backstage: Pulling Back the Curtain on Copyright Fundamentals
DESCRIPTION:Each month\, Director of Business Affairs Jessica Lit\, Esq. and Business Affairs Consultant Leesa Fenderson\, Esq. will “pull back the curtain” on various aspects of the business of writing for the theatre. \nThis month the attorneys will “pull back the curtain on” copyright fundamentals. As we embark on a new year\, the attorneys want to get back to basics. Copyright basics to be specific. Ownership of your copyright is the most important aspect of protecting your work as a theatre writer. It is the reason why theatre writers cannot collectively bargain\, but it is also the reason why theatre writers maintain sole discretion over changes to their work. \nIn this session\, the attorneys will deep dive into copyright fundamentals like what is and is not copyrightable\, why registration is important\, co-authorship\, the work-for-hire doctrine\, fair use\, and more! Whether you know nothing about copyright or think you know all there is to know – this session will have something for everyone! \nVIRTUAL and FREE event for DG Members.
