Historic Change: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Celia Cruz

  • Lehman Center for the Performing Arts (map)

The National Women’s History Museum—a RISE Partner Organization—and the United States Mint, in partnership with the Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music, Lehman College, Telemundo, and the estate of Celia Cruz, invite you to join them on September 27 in the Bronx for a special celebration of the incomparable Celia Cruz and the launch of the new quarter in her honor.

This joyous and inspiring program will include remarks by special guests; a conversation about Cruz’s life and legacy; and performances by Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music Music 4-Train vocals and the Celia Cruz Bronx High School of Music Big Band. Everyone in attendance will receive a very special memento: the new Celia Cruz quarter.

Known as the “Queen of Salsa,” Celia Cruz was an internationally-acclaimed singer and dynamic stage performer whose long and versatile career broadened the reach of Caribbean and Latin American music, celebrating its African roots.
